Stereo Microscopes

  • Stereo microscopes are used for viewing larger objects. The specimen is placed on a stage and usually light is reflected off the specimen rather than passing through it.
  • Stereo microscopes produce a three-dimensional image as each eyepiece has a different viewing angle (just like our eyes).
  • Stereo microscopes have lower magnification than compound microscopes and are used for viewing objects such as plant and animal tissues and insects. They are also useful outside of biology for activities such as jewellery making, watch repair and engraving.
