The following questions will require you to conduct your own research. Choose any that interest you. Write your answers in your notebook, or create a poster or presentation.

Topic 1

Research the production of synthetic elements. Why is it so difficult to accomplish and what are some of the problems associated with observing the physical and chemical properties of these elements?

Topic 2

Research some of the compounds that contain noble gases and describe how they are formed. Which noble gases are more likely to form compounds and which have not been found to form any compounds?

Topic 3

Research an element that was predicted to exist – from its location in the periodic table – before it had been discovered. Describe the properties it was predicted to have and compare these with what were observed upon its discovery.
