Transformation of Energy

• Energy can change forms.

• The conversion of energy from one form into another is known as energy transformation.

• Energy transformation, therefore, involves a change in the type of energy.

• Example 1

• When an archer shoots an arrow, elastic potential energy in the bow is transformed into mechanical energy in the arrow.

• Example 2

• A heating element transforms electrical energy into thermal energy (heat).

• Example 3

• Plants transform light energy into chemical energy during the process of photosynthesis.

• We will look at energy transformation in more detail in a following lesson.

Energy transformation is the conversion of energy from one form into another.
