Conservation of Energy

  • The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed.
  • This means that whenever energy is transferred or transformed, the total amount of energy remains the same.
  • In the previous example of energy transfer involving a bowling ball striking bowling pins, the bowling pins gain energy, but the bowling ball loses energy.
  • Similarly, in the previous example of energy transformation involving the bow and arrow, the arrow gains kinetic energy, but the bow loses potential energy.

Whenever energy is transferred or transformed, the total amount of energy remains the same.
