2 | Kinetic Energy

Kinetic Energy

  • Kinetic energy is active energy. It includes any form of energy where work is being done.
  • Kinetic energy involves some type of movement, either of whole objects, particles within objects, or waves.
  • Examples of kinetic energy include:
  • Mechanical kinetic energy – energy in the form of moving objects.
  • Thermal energy (heat) – energy in the form of movement of atoms and molecules in solids, liquids and gases.
  • Radiant energy (radiation) – energy in the form of electromagnetic waves; light energy is a type radiant energy.
  • Sound energy – energy in the form of waves caused by the vibration of particles within matter.
  • Electrical kinetic energy – energy in the form of flowing electrons.
  • We will look more closely at the different types of kinetic energy in a following lesson.
